Services

At Provance Chiropractic, here in Metairie and the New Orleans area, we take great pride in providing the finest non-surgical, drug free care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different non-invasive chiropractic services we offer.

Chiropractic Adjustments (Manipulation)

The chiropractic adjustment, also known as a manipulation, aims to improve or restore proper motion to joint segments throughout the body. Joint segments are where two bones come together, and motion is essential for the function and integrity of the joint. Our chiropractors will use a highly skilled technique called Motion Palpation to properly assess the joint segments to determine whether the joint is functioning correctly or not (restricted or blocked). This procedure is done by hand, and the doctor will apply a precise adjustment with their hands, or use a gentle instrument called an Activator, to the joint in a specific direction to improve and restore proper motion into the joint segment. Chiropractic adjustments can be made to the spine, sacroiliac, and extremity joints of the body. The extremities include shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands, as well as the hips, knees, ankles, and feet. During an adjustment, an audible sound may be heard (pop or snap), which results in carbon dioxide and nitrogen gases being released from their joint as oxygenated blood and nutrients enter the joint. Chiropractic adjustments have been proven effective and safe and have high patient satisfaction.

Chiropractic adjustment (manipulation) techniques utilized at our clinic are Motion Palpation TechniqueDiversified Technique, Activator and Extremity Adjusting.

Vertebral Axial Decompression Therapy / Spinal Cervical and Lumbar Non-Surgical Decompression

Spinal decompression therapy is often added to treatment plans for patients suffering from structural differences and nerve compression. Spinal discs become decreased in fluid, causing them to lose their shape. When this occurs, the disc may have a bulge or herniation. Disc herniations can displace, protrude, or put pressure on the surrounding nerves, commonly called a "pinched nerve" or "pinched nerves."
Spinal decompression therapy is considered a conservative and noninvasive approach used to open spinal joint space and, alleviate pressure on discs and relieve compression of the spinal nerves. Our highly trained doctors will use traction, distraction, and body position to open the spinal column and reposition the effective disc. Spinal decompression therapy can also help patients with other spinal conditions that cause neck and back pain, such as arthritis, degenerative disc disease, and facet joint pain. This therapy often offers good results and is used instead of the traditional surgical approach to treat these conditions.

At Provance Chiropractic, here in Metairie and the New Orleans region, our Non-surgical Spinal Decompression table may also be used to relieve local neck pain, back pain, and referred arm or leg pain associated with Protruding Discs, Bulging Discs, Herniated Discs, Degenerative Disc Disease, Posterior Facet Syndrome, Acute Facet Problems, Radicular Pain, Prolapsed Discs, Spinal Root Impingement, Hypomobility, Degenerative Joint Disease, Facet Syndrome, Old Compressions Fractures, & Joint Pain.

Our Triton DTS TRT-600 Spine Therapy Table provides a treatment in static, intermittent, and cyclic distraction forces to relieve pressures on structures that may be causing pain of skeletal or muscular origin.

FAKTR Instruments

 Soft Tissue Techniques
Graston Technique and FAKTR (Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehabilitation) instruments are classified as instrument-assisted soft tissue manipulation (IASTM). The instruments are used to restore soft tissue tone and relieve tension in the body's soft tissues and surrounding joints. When muscles, tendons, and ligaments (soft tissues), become scarred and fibrotic, they become dense and restrict motion, causing pain at the specific site and surrounding areas. Coagulated and densified (hardened) tissue also occurs at the site soft tissue dysfunction. The Graston Technique and FAKTR instruments are designed to revive and restore soft tissue tone by freeing up the scarred and fibrotic tissues and improving the function of the specific site and surrounding areas to move more freely and with less pain experienced by the patient.

 Spinal & Postural Screenings

Posture and spinal screenings can reveal important health information and unlock the door to improved health and well-being. We provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Contact us today to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.

 Corrective Exercises

We teach our patients special "blueprint" exercises designed just for them to help strengthen and correct their unique problems. The exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction by as much as 30-40%. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles, and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay balanced and healthy.

Graston Instruments

 Graston Technique

The Graston Technique is a modern instrument-assisted technique for treating acute and chronic soft tissue conditions and injuries. It is a soft tissue mobilization technique that takes advantage of specially designed stainless steel instruments that aid the doctor in breaking up scar tissue and myofascial adhesions.

The treatment instruments are made of high-quality surgical stainless steel and come in various shapes and sizes, allowing maximum effectiveness in targeting specific scar tissue areas of the body. Using the Graston Technique instruments helps enhance the doctor's ability to detect and treat soft tissue restrictions, fascial adhesions, and scar tissue.

 Kinesio Taping Technique kinesio_tape.jpg

Kinesio Tape was designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. The tape is applied over injured and poorly functioning soft tissues and muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused muscles, re-educate the neuromuscular system, promote good circulation and healing, support muscles in movement on a 24hr basis, and prevent injury. Kinesio taping is a non-restrictive in which it allows for full range of motion, while improving the way the patient feels and moves.

FAKTR

FAKTR, which stands for Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehabilitation, is a cutting-edge approach that combines hands-on therapy with functional movements and rehabilitation exercises.

One of the critical features of FAKTR is its incorporation of movement to detect and help resolve problem areas of the body in the treatment protocol. Instead of simply targeting the affected soft tissue injury areas in a static (non-movement) position, FAKTR focuses on creating movement through exercises or reproduction of movements you would make daily. All intending to challenge the injured tissues to promote enhanced healing and recovery.

Through a combination of exercises, manual techniques (use of the chiropractor's hands), and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), FAKTR aims to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall function. The protocol can be tailored to each person's needs, whether using instruments or not.

SpectraCell Laboratories Micronutrient Testing

Overwhelming scientific evidence confirms that vitamin deficiencies are associated with disease processes and the overall condition of one's health. Vitamin, mineral and antioxidant deficiencies have been shown to suppress immune function and contribute to chronic degenerative processes such as arthritis, cancer, Alzheimer's, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. This body of research has been reaffirmed by the Journal of the American Medical Association (June 19, 2002-Vol 287, No 23). Micronutrient Testing from SpectraCell Laboratories SpectraCell Laboratories, Inc. is a CLIA accredited clinical laboratory that specializes in micronutrient testing. This patented process resulted from 18 years of research at the University of Texas.

Lifestyle Advise

We often find it helpful to "coach" our patients on certain activities they should avoid or do differently so as not to aggravate their particular health challenge. Some coaching services we offer are Self Care/Home Management Training (Activities of daily living and compensatory training, safety procedures, and more), which is instruction in managing the injury at home and preventing secondary injury. Also, Community and Work Reintegration Training (shopping, transportation, vocational activities, work environment modification analysis, work task analysis), skills that would be incorporated into the work environment.
Our goal is to help patients achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle full of activities they enjoy most!
